What this registered nurse role involves.

Introduction

Could you be the person who helps a young person feel safe, supported and confident every day? We are looking for a Residential Care Practitioner to join a children's residential home in Burton-on-Trent, supporting young people with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs. This is an opportunity for a caring and committed individual to become part of a team that provides a safe, supportive and nurturing environment where young people can develop their skills, confidence and independence.

Job Specification

  • Provide consistent, person-centred care and support to children and young people.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with young people and act as a positive role model.
  • Support young people with their daily routines, personal care, independence and life skills.
  • Encourage participation in activities, education, hobbies and community opportunities.
  • Support young people to develop their confidence, independence and social skills.
  • Follow individual care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
  • Respond appropriately and calmly to behaviours that may challenge, using agreed support and de-escalation approaches.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare, safety and rights of the young people in your care.
  • Maintain accurate daily records, reports and other care documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, families, social workers and other professionals involved in the young person's care.

Candidate Requirement

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, preferably within a residential care setting.
  • Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism or complex needs.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • A Level 3 or Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare, or an equivalent relevant qualification, or a willingness to work towards one.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with young people.
  • A full UK driving licence, where required for the role.
  • Flexibility to work a residential shift pattern, including weekends and sleep-ins where required.
